Electricity production 

To convert your biogas into renewable energy Arol Energy offers its CHP solutions. Our solutions for CHP (Combined Heat and Power) use gas engines specifically designed to produce electricity and heat at high efficiency. Typically an energy efficiency of > 80% is achieved and even efficiencies in excess of 90% are possible. The generated electricity can be used on-site and/or can be exported to the national grid.

A portion of the heat recovered from the CHP engine is generally used to produce hot water to heat the digesters (typically operated at 37°C for a mesophilic anaerobic digester) and/or the substrate used to feed the digester. The excess heat can for instance be used to provide heat for on-site buildings and/or processes, nearby district heating or the local industry.

An advantage of the CHP engine is the fact that they can run on a very lean gas and the biogas thus does not need any upgrading (CO2 elimination) as opposed to the production of biomethane for grid injection or vehicle fuel. Nonetheless, to assure a seamless functioning of the CHP engine several impurities, which are mainly water, hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and siloxanes, generally need to be removed upstream to adhere to the requirements of the CHP manufacturers.
To eliminate these compounds Arol Energy builds on its extended knowledge of biogas pre-treatment and proposes several technological solutions which are designed to the customer’s needs and ensure an efficient and cost-effective pre-treatment of your biogas. 

Overall, with the feed-in tariff for electricity present in many European countries the direct production of electricity and heat is an attractive pathway to valorize the energetic and economic potential of your biogas and our solutions exactly respond to this demand.
