Arol Energy offers with its AE-Membrane process an electrically-driven biogas upgrading technology characterized by its advantageous inherent simplicity. Due to the high selectivity of the membrane carbon dioxide is separated out and the raw biogas is transformed into biomethane. Besides CO2 the membranes also remove the water, eliminating the need for further drying.

Another advantage, as membranes operate under elevated pressures, lays in the fact that additional compression requirements for the use of biomethane for grid injection or biofuel are reduced or even eliminated.

                                     

Due to the inherent modular design of the membrane technology Arol Energy can adapt its biogas upgrading installation to your specific requirements. Typically a biomethane purity of 98% is achieved with a methane loss lower than 0.5%. For this purpose Arol Energy uses advanced PRISM® membranes from Air Products. The membranes consist of thousands of hollow fibers that look like straws, which are bundled in metal tubes, called modules. The quantity and interconnection of these modules can be varied and ultimately determines the purity of the biomethane and the associated methane losses.

                                                     

Currently, Arol Energy proposes a standardized product line with membrane upgrading units from 100 to 1000 Nm3/h. However, depending on the customer’s requirements, Arol Energy designs and constructs AE-Membrane units adapted to their needs thanks to the modular construction.
